Our investigations started to elucidate the effects evoked by microiontophoretic amines, noradrenaline and serotonin, on the excitability of neurons operating in motor control (vestibular nuclei, red nucleus, cerebellar nuclei, VA and VM thalamic motor nuclei). Particularly, studies we are performing on these neurons also are related to the effects evoked by these amines on the background firing rate as well as on their responsivenes to other neurotransmitters and neuromodulators. The findings indicate that various types of motor performances are extensively modulated by both noradrenergic ancd serotonergic systems. We are also running on the road of stem cells to verify the effects of these amines on the spiking activity of new neurons inserted in experimentally injured motor networks.
